Notes for Casting Epoxy Video
Notes for Casting Epoxy Video
- THERE WERE MANY EFFORTS BEFORE AND AFTER IN MAKING THE FINAL PRODUCT
- THIS VIDEO WAS TAKEN WHILE THE EPOXY POURING PART OF THE PROJECT WAS BEING DONE.
- ATTENTION IS DIRECTED TO THESE IMPORTANT POINTS NOT DISCUSSED IN THE VIDEO
- This project produces a table top with the theme of the lava flow from an erupting volcano as it flows through the landscape forming channels as it flows.
- As the lava cools along the edges in the real world, the color there turns to black as lava rock forms.
- To emulate that, black dyed epoxy is carefully poured along the edges
- A blower is used to steer it toward the edge when needed.
- The epoxy is poured in 1/4 inch layers to manage the setting process which forms bubbles as it begins to cure.
- When bubbles form a torch is used to pop them
- THERE WAS A GREAT DEAL OF PREP WORK THAT IS NOT SEEN IN THIS VIDEO.
- SEVERAL HOURS WERE SPENT TO PREPARE AND SET UP FOR THE POUR.
- NOT DOING THE PROPER PREP RESULTS IN A VERY BAD RESULT THAT CAN BE COSTLY.
- THE COST OF THE PROJECT SHOWN IN THE VIDEO WAS $160
