The Tom Cowan Memorial Turning Bee will be held on Saturday, July 22 from 8 AM until turners complete.  Location is Isha Institute 951 Isha Lane McMinnville TN 37110.  Cost is $10 per person for the bowl blanks.

July 29 Shop Tour Teri Smith @ 100 Pleasant Way, Shelbyville. Meet for breakfast at 8am at Hardees on 1907 North Jackson, Tullahoma

The Club has a field trip to visit the WWII Military Museum on August 19. Museum is located at: 1148 Main St. Monteagle.

September 23^rd Club picnic at Falls Mill 11am-2pm. Meat and drinks provided. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share.

October 7-8 Tim’s Ford Heritage Days. Details coming.

October 21-22 Rich Wetherbee’s Carving seminar. Cost is $170 plus roughouts $30-$40. Lunch will be provided both days. Contact Jim if you plan to attend.

The Tool and Craft Fair will be held Saturday, Oct 28th at St Barnabas Episcopal Church. It slipped one week due to Rich Wetherbee’s carving seminar on 21-22 Oct.

SHOP TIPS

1. To draw a straight line on a dowel rod, place dowel in the guide groove on your table saw. You can also use a door jamb trim to hold the dowel and provide a straight edge for marking.
2. To keep wood from slipping in your clamps, mix common table salt with wood glue.

SHOW and TELL:

Garry Runyon started us off with a small bowl which he turned from curly black walnut.

Dennis Rumer brought in a paper towel holder out of Walnut and his very first bowl turned from Purple Heart. Both were finished with poly.

John Hartin brought in a walnut goblet and used it as an example of how to apply the ‘Rule of Thirds” to your designs.

Vince Zaccardi turned a walnut plate finished with oil. Then showed us a rough turned piece of live edge hickory after it had been in a bag for several months. The live edge had separated from the bowl and although it didn’t break, it was severally twisted.

PROGRAM FOR TONIGHT:

Paul Jalbert: 2 x 4 Challenge. Use a regular 2x4x8 and create something in a month’s time using as much wood as possible. Paul created a 1/48^th scale model Martin JRM-3 Mars Seaplane. Then he added a twist by characterizing the nose and wingtips of the plane to look like a pelican with flying cap and googles. Thank you, Paul!
