Meeting opened by President Jim Jolliffe at 6:30pm.

There were no visitors this evening.

Calendar of Events:

Club Tool Sale – Saturday Nov 19^th 8am-2pm Church of Nazarene Decherd

Setup Friday Nov 18^th after 3pm and Saturday morning before 8.

Tullahoma Tree Lighting Support – November 26^th from 3-5 PM.  City has booths available to club members at no charge and no commissions (if you sell your work). Set up around 2:30.

Christmas Party – December 10^th Church of Nazarene Members to bring sides and deserts.

New officers take over January.

Programs– Gary Runyon reported setting programs for upcoming year. January is Tony Murphy on Making Bar Stools, February – Networking Program with Members, March program making banjos.

Shop Tours: Anthony Watts reported on tour of his shop. Enjoyed by all.

 Announcements: Jim Jolliffe said free woodworking magazines on table. Will put selection of WoodSmith magazines in club library.  We now have Issues 1-170, 175, 177, 179, 181, 184, 188, 197-202, 207-216, 221-229, 231-234, and 240-242.  They are in the Splinter Carvers’ Library, located in Jim Jolliffe’s Shop along with many issues of Fine Woodworking, Carving Illustrated and a variety of books and other magazine titles.  This extensive collection’s baseline inventory was originally owned by TVW member Phil Bishop.

Matt Brothers announced club has large selection of finishes from Jack Kincella are available to members.  They are stored in Matt’s shop.

Jim reported on Rob Cosman’s Purple Heart Project. Club has donated $500 in the past. Motion made, seconded, and passed to donate again.

Jim Jolliffe told of a Hands on Science Center potential project of  a kid-sized DaVinci Flying Machine. He will get more details.

SHOW AND TELL:

Jim Jolliffe had 3 carved caricatures made of basswood. Finish with boiled linseed oil, acrylic paint washes and spray matte finish.

Richard Gulley showed Christmas ornaments and a jack-o-lantern box. Made with ambrosia maple  and cedar.  Richard talked about making ornaments and the Many Names of Jesus signs with his CNC machine.

Gary Runyon showed a shoulder plane he made with apple wood and tool steel.

Chuck Taylor displayed a red cedar coin bank made for kids. Said he made them in place of tops as Christmas gifts.  He finished them with beeswax and linseed oil. Had a nice bowl made from apple and finished with satin lacquer.

Clay and Cindy Cooper showed multiple items.  First was a Tim’s Ford Lake laser cut sign. They showed a charcuterie tray made with cherry and also laser cut by a friend.  They made a circular charcuterie tray made from pine with feet and a decorative pine bough wreath done by Cindy with wood-burning tools and light paint.

Paul Jalbert displayed a large 3” thick redwood sign he made for a customer carved with western style lettering and horse and bull heads. He talked about the challenges of carving this highly figured redwood. He finished the sign with acrylic paint and spar urethane.

Gary Walker brought a spice rack, trivet, cutting board and segmented bowl. Made with ash, walnut and maple, finished with lacquer.

Sam Clark showed a dispenser for M&Ms made for kids of Good Samaritan in Murfreesboro.

Vince Zaccardi had a maple bowl and a walnut bowl. He explained the plug in one and hole in other. He told of using a recess method using Forstner bits to turn bowls. He also had a tool to measure bowl thickness.

PROGRAM: SHADOW TURNING presented by Fred Heltsley.  Fred provided an interesting program on shadow turning.  Slides with associated links are posted on the website.

The December program is Super Show and Tell so members need to bring all their projects!
