Greetings

Summer seems determined to hang on as long as possible. We’re into October now and temperatures are still pushing 90 degrees. Hurricane Michael may bring us cooler weather soon.  But try to remember these warm days when January comes along and you’re complaining about the cold.

Looking Back

Coming Events

Welcome to Our New Members

Welcome to our newest members, Doug DuBois and son Max from Wartrace TN, George Linkh from Pelham, and Glen Smith also from Pelham. All four joined at the September meeting.

We also had several guests - Carl Blumenthal, Ken Jordan, and Tim Glover.

Club Business

A large part of the success we have enjoyed as a club these many years has been the great leadership we have been blessed with. Good leadership comes when folk who are willing to get involved for the good of the club and its membership. At the last meeting, our president gave a call for those who might be willing to give something back to the club. So, think about it, and consider serving during the next year.

Even if you’re not an officer, there are many other ways to serve. There are seminar committees, social functions (Picnic & Christmas), outreach and community projects. Get involved. You’ll enjoy working with fellow woodworkers and maybe get a new best friend to boot!

September Show and Tell

We strive to get the right picture associated with the right presenter, but oftentimes it's hard. So speak up when you give your name and we'll try hard to get everything matched up. Also, there are additional pictures of some of the items in the Gallery. Look for Show and Tell.

Links of Interest

This is the ultimate woodworking link! A site that lists a plethora of other sites (the Top 100) about all things woodworking related – Magazines, videos, blogs, forums, hand tools, machine tools, supplies, carvers, turning, chair making and much more!!
http://www.woodworkers-online.com/p/top-100-woodworking-sites.html

Here’s a link to a page that’s all about picture frame production. That is, construction of a table saw sled, a jig to glue up the whole frame at once, and a finishing station to spray the frames. Lots of ideas and clear explanation on different variations of the basic frame and building and using the jigs.

Woodworking Tips

vertical drilling jigI recently had to drill holes into the ends of a long board. I tried it by eye and failed miserably. Then I realized I could swing the floor model drill press table 90 degrees and drill the holes. It took a lot of lining up, but worked great.

I found this set up for doing the same thing. Once built, the jig seems to simplify this task. The picture is pretty self-explanatory, but the link is below if you need additional info.
