We are saddened by the death of Marvin Moore, who was a Tennessee Valley Woodworker club member for about 15 years. • Shop Tours

  • The September shop tour was great. it was attended by app 15 people and we had 5 presenters at Henry Davis’ shop. The tour centered around using our talents to not only reimburse ourselves for project expenses but also utilizing the craft fair market and internet to find customers for our items. in addition, John hartin gave a great presentation on utilizing our talents for helping in the community with charities. He showed us how to be part of the need that is in our communities for helping raise money and at the same time letting folks know what we do as a club and individuals.

  • Projects

  •

  • The woodworkers club really gained a lot of attention from the job of restoring the front doors for the new CEO from Harton Hospital. The Club ended up with 9 people taking part in the project that included stripping and restoring two 8ft hand carved chestnut doors. Paul Jalbert did a fantastic job of doing (4) carvings to replace the old medallions that were original to the doors and everyone else teamed up to take down the doors and complete the work and put them back up. Thanks to Henry Davis for the use of his shop for a week to complete the work. The project realized a $500 donation for the club after expenses and are in the process of investing that into a community project in Tullahoma designing and installing a wheel chair ramp for a family with a great need. The Club is combining our talents with those of the Kings Cross Church work group and the project is headed up by Paul Jalbert. More to follow at the meeting.

    Shop Tip

Glue residue: uncover it with Naphtha

Before staining, wipe your project with a cloth dampened with naphtha to reveal any areas where glue still resides. Sand any problem surfaces and repeat the naphtha test. To avoid this problem altogether, try staining adjoining surfaces before initially gluing them. Mask mating joint surfaces, protecting them from stain, and apply glue to raw wood only.
