TVW NEWS AND NOTES
Several items have sent to us recently
suggesting that the Club be informed via a blast email or website Home
page. There are three points of information for Club members to
remember. First: We have the website Home page for non-time critical
items. Second: We have blast emails for items of a more time critical
nature. Third: We have a Forum to enable ANY club member to post
articles they wish to share.
Business items that belong on the Home page are welcome and Loyd will
post them usually within a day. Send an email to tv-w@live.com.
Some things are more or less timely and Chuck will blast them in a
timely fashion to all Club members with email addresses. Chuck’s email
is in the Member list or send an email to tv-w@live.com .
The Forum is available for any member on the Club’s Member List to use.
Anyone can read the Forum at any time. Members can post any item [that
follows a few basic rules – posted on the Forum] on the Forum by logging
in with their user name and password. If you find that you do not have
log in credentials send an email to tv-w@live.com requesting them. We
will typically respond within a few hours.

Box in Chattanooga, demonstrated spindle turning and discussed bowl
turning. Larry Ridge(right) owner of Horsin’ around Carousel Carving
School discussed his school in Soddy Daisy and demonstrated how he
carves real life like large animals. Thanks to the Cowan Art Center for
allowing us to use their facilities. Many thanks to Mary Cowan for the
good food we all enjoyed.

CARVER'S CORNER
|
The Splinter
Carvers met on Saturday morning, August 1. There were
eight carvers in attendance including two new members of
the club, Blue Pau and Win Phipps. Jim has added some
bench space so there was room for all to work. Some more
progress was made on the soaring eagle and others worked
on their own projects. It is great to see so many
carvers working on so many different kinds of carving
projects. We discussd carving a carousel horse as our
next club project and meeting twice a month, on the
first and third Saturdays, to generate more interest and
improve our productivity. If the carvers agree, a formal
announcement will be made. |

Shop Tip
Right-size sandpaper
with this “cutting” board
Tearing sandpaper sheets to size is a
tedious task made easier with this simple jig. First, cut some scrap
hardwood to the length of a hacksaw blade. Rip three pieces to the
widths shown below and plane them to slightly different thicknesses
to create the “steps,” as shown. Make a shallow rabbet for the
blade in the 2 3⁄4″-wide piece and then edge-glue the pieces
together. Epoxy the blade in the rabbet and you’re ready to make
piles of properly sized sheets in no time. By butting the edge of
the abrasive against the correct step, you can tear-off half-,
third-, and quarter-sheets for your power sanders or for
hand-sanding blocks.
