The May meeting will be at 7:00 pm on the 20th at the University of Tennessee Space institute, room H111.
The May program will be presented by Wayne Loveless. His will be
discussing the topic of “Carousel Horse Carving” and will also provide
information on the new Woodcraft store that David Sapp, owner of the
Woodcraft store in Franklin, will be opening in Chattanooga.
Wayne, who is a turning demonstrator for Woodcraft, will be showing and
discussing some turning tools and giving us some tips on the fine art of
turning.

The annual “Turning Bee” was held on Saturday, May 10th and was a huge success. About 30 members attended the event. Everyone got to rough turn a green bowl.
Thanks to Larry and Sherry Wendland for hosting the event again this year at his shop. Sherry, as always provided the group with a great lunch.
The group responsible for procuring the cherry log, providing the labor to prepare all the blanks and setting up all the lathes is to be commended. The cherry bowl blanks were really good this year.
This is always a very popular event for new turners and seems to get better each year. Most of the club members got their turning “start” at one of our turning bees. Everyone had a great time and learned some new skills.
The annual TVW picnic and auction will be held on May 31 at Falls Mill. The event will start at 5 PM but the mill will be open for you to tour at 4:15.
The auction is a major fundraiser for the club. So, remember to bring something for the auction, preferably something you have made.
This is a potluck supper so bring your favorite
covered dish. The Club will provide drinks, plates & forks.
Come out and enjoy the food and fellowship with your fellow club
members.
Remember -- bring a comfortable lawn chair for you and your guests.
The first McMinnville Arts Festival was held on April 26th. Karen Browning opened her building in McMinnville for the Festival. Several club members set up and provided demonstrations on the sidewalk in front of the building for Festival visitors. It was a fun day to show stuff and sit around and gab!

The Carvers met at Jim Joliffe’s shop on May 3. Attendees included Jim, Dick, Ken, Steve, Alan and Paul. The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss upcoming wood carving shows and events, as well as to review the club's finances. The rest of the meeting time was spent discussing arrangements to continue to meet at Jim's, sharpening techniques, club projects and some of Jim's personal woodworking projects.
The next meeting of the wood carvers is planned for June 7 at 8:30 AM.
The carvers normally meet on the first Saturday of each month. Anyone interested in carving is welcome to attend these monthly meetings. There will be additional information at the regular club meeting concerning the date and location of the next Carver’s meeting.

The flute circle will meet again on Saturday May 24th
at the Cowan Artist Guild on Main Street in Cowan. The morning meeting
time is 10 – 12.
Everyone is welcome. A flute is not required, one will be provided for
new comers. Come and enjoy the relaxing music of the native flute.
The will be additional information at the regular monthly club meeting on May 20th.
This group is for anyone interested in learning how to play the native
flute.

The Club's Digital Library is being temporarily closed due to member inactivity in the use of the valuable information in the library. The disposition of the library content is unknown at this time.
If you would like to volunteer to be the club librarian and administer this important program, please contact your club president.
If you have checked out items in your possession, please return the items to Henry Davis at the April meeting.
Remember that selected DVD's can still be viewed on the Club website.
If you are a recent new member or had requested a new name tag, a box of name tags will be available at the May meeting. Please check to see if your name tag is there.
In the future, name tags will be made for new members and available for pickup at the next regular monthly meeting. Name tags for other members will be made upon request only and will also be available for pickup at the next meeting.

Jim Everett – brought a clothes tree that he made from a free limb. He used a pine log chunk for the base and deer antlers for hanging hooks. |

Ross Roepke – brought three cedar boxes that he made from molding. He mitered the side corners and made each box with a different type lid. |

Karen Browning – brought a maple vessel and a natural edge oak bowl. The oak bowl had developed several cracks. She asked for advice, the answer she got “Don’t turn out of oak!”
