Next Meeting January 17th

The January meeting will be at 7:00 pm on the 17th at the University of Tennessee Space institute, room H111.

About The Program

The January program will be presented by Kenneth Daniel. Kenneth is a long-time saw sharpener who lives in Tullahoma. A lot of the club
members have used Kenneth’s services in the past with great results. Here is a chance to get all your “saw sharpening” questions answered by
a local expert.

Come out and see what Kenneth has to tell you concerning how to care for your saw blades at the January 17th meeting.

TVW NEWS AND NOTES

WELCOME TO TVW 2012

We have a new slate of officers for the calendar year. Please express your appreciation to the 2011 officers for the outstanding year of
activities, workshops and seminars. They did an outstanding job.
The teamwork demonstrated by members throughout our club is what sets this club apart.
We enter 2012 with a total membership of 186. The club had a total of 27 new members added to the roster during last year.
We are looking forward to another great year for our TVW Woodworkers Club. Please support your 2012 officers, as they prepare plans for the
year.

JANUARY 21ST WORKSHOP

There will be a Workshop on making a "Longworth Chuck" on January 21 at 9 AM. The location will be Henry Davis’ shop at 247 Delight Ln,
Tullahoma. Contact Henry for directions: 931-393-3191 or hdavis37@charter.net. Contact Loyd Ackerman 931-728-9952 or ackerman1@charter.net
for technical issues.
You will need to provide your own supplies and some tooling.
You can view the workshop plan and the items you will need on the web site.
You can see all the discussion that has been taking place by accessing the TVW forum.

PLANNING FOR 2012

The TVW Executive Committee will be meeting this month to plan the year’s activities and set the dates for the regular events that will occur
during the year. Additional information will be available at the regular meeting. If you have suggestions for a seminar, workshop or program,
please give your request to one of the executive committee members.

CARVER'S CORNER

Sixteen carvers showed up at Phil's shop on the 7th and worked on individual projects. The group has decided to acquire some buckeye for a
future project. Everyone will be working on a "Woodspirit" at the next meeting. Bring your own wood. A suggestion was made to have a class on
“eyes”.
One of the carver's early exhibits being discussed is the Cowan Center for The Arts on March 10th. Additional carvers information will be available
at the regular meeting.
The carvers normally meet on the first Saturday of each month and work on individual or group projects. Anyone interested in carving is welcome to attend these monthly meetings.

WANT TO MAKE THOSE NI-CADS LAST LONGER?

Scott Short found a procedure on the internet describing how to rejuvenate Ni-Cad batteries. He tried it and it worked. If you have old Ni-Cads and want to bring them back to life, contact Scott.

TVW FORUM REQUEST

The Forum is now functioning smoothly with lots of activity and really great information being passed between members. If you have a question, here is the place to get an answer. Instead of just “viewing” the forum, you can ask questions or answer questions. It is a great way to swap ideas and learn new tricks of the trade.

If you have not registered, the procedure is on the home page of the TVW web site. Just follow the procedure on the website and send an email to either Loyd Ackerman or Chuck Taylor. They will email you as soon as your account is activated. You will then be able to share your ideas and experiences with other members through the forum.

TVW DIGITAL LIBRARY NEWS

A great way to start off the year is to review the massive listing of information available in our “Digital Library”. This is a good way to learn new techniques and brush up on old ones. Henry has the library “open” at each regular meeting. If you have internet access, you can take a look at all the topics, by going to the club web site. New items are being added all the time.

Please remember that you can now view some of the club DVDs on line. Go to the library listing on our club website and click on the underlined titles.
For a complete list of all items in the Digital Library, see Henry Davis at club meetings, email him at hdavis37@charter.net or call him at 393-3191 and leave a message.

TVW CLUB DUES

If you have not already paid you dues, please pay the treasurer, Bob Addington at the meeting or you can mail your check to Bob at his home address (249 Big Oak Drive, Manchester, TN 37355). Our dues are $10.00 for a single membership, and $15.00 for a family membership (what a bargain).
