The picnic chairman, Felix Rees, will have more to announce at the May meeting.

A “Vacuum Pressing” workshop is scheduled for May 15th. The location is Loyd Ackerman’s shop. A signup sheet was passed at the last meeting for those interested in attending.

The Dogwood Festival was held May 7 - 9. This annual festival is held in Winchester, Tennessee and is always a lot of fun. This year it was dry and enjoyable. The carvers set up a booth to display their “creations” and had various demonstrations during the Festival.

New name tags have been made for every member. If you do not have a new name tag yet, please see Bob Addington.

Hopefully, each member will wear these new tags at our regular meetings.

The carvers met on May 1st at Phil Bishop's shop. The group continued with the program started at the previous meeting. Ron Reimers is conducting a class on “Building Native American Flutes”. Everyone is making their own “flute”. The class will continue at the next carver’s meeting.

The carvers will be displaying their talent at the Railroad Museum Arts & Craft Show, on June 12 – 13 at Cowan, TN. Additional information will be given at the regular May meeting.

If you are interested in knowing more about sharpening techniques, especially turning gouges, this is one of your great opportunities. Bob Reese will give you one-on-one training. APRIL MEETING SHOW AND TELL:

Doyle McConnell brought in two Ambrosia maple turned vases. Doyle also displayed a segmented salt shaker and pepper grinder made with 136 segments.

Bob Reese displayed a stave oil lamp holder constructed from Poplar wood.  This was his prototype for Christmas gifts.

Tom Cowan displayed a tilt top tea table made from curly cherry.

Felix Rees discussed a walnut table.  The plan that Felix used for his design was from the table plans provided a last year’s workshop by Ronnie Young. He also brought a small lamp.

Jim Van Cleave brought a basswood carving of a floral wreath.  The carving was finished with Deft oil.

Vince Zaccardi brought in some wood that had been given to him and ask if anyone could identify it.

Matt Brothers displayed a jewelry box which he constructed from Mahogany and Walnut.

Jim Accord discussed the “experience” of making gardening tools.

Ken Gould, who is known for his blacksmith work, displayed a prototype gavel he made for a local women’s organization.

Jay Hazel made a maple round cutting board using “end grain” maple blocks.

Don Rounsavill brought in two bowls he made from maple.  The bowls were made using a jig with a router. Don made the router jigs from instructions he found at woodsmith.com.

Bill May displayed a camel carved from Sycamore wood.  Bill also brought in dressed boy and girl dolls for which he had carved the face, hands and feet.

Will Gaetjens displayed a Biltmore stick which he glued up from pieces of maple with Elmer’s Waterproof Glue.

Crocia Robertson brought in a unique round wooden holder that she bought at an estate sale to see if anyone could identify the piece.

Saw for sale: Bosch 4212L 12 inch, Dual Bevel miter saw. Good condition used about one year. The saw sells in the $400 & up range online. Asking $325. Contact: Tom Church, phone 931-967-4460 or email tomchurchstudio@yahoo.com

Wood for sale: includes various lengths of Buckeye, Pine, Oak and Walnut.  He also has some solid doors and some hardwood flooring.  Contact: Ernie Sanders at 581-4743 or 455-9766.
