TUESDAY ARRIVES EARLY
IN NOVEMBER
Don’t
miss our next meeting. The third Tuesday is November 15. We start at 7:00 PM. If you haven’t set your clock back by now~ this is as good as time as any.

LARGEST SHOW AND TELL
Tom Cowan says it’s been a long time since we devoted a program entirely to Show and Tell. So if you have any past or present projects you’ve worked on during the past year bring them in. If you have any toys ready yet bring them in to inspire us. Or if YOU are working on a special Christmas project, bring it. and let the rest of us gaze on with envy.
As always, Show and Tell also includes any tools you might want to share with club members. After hearing about the man from Illinois at Old Timey Day, some of you might want to bring in tools to trade. It seems that more and more of our members are developing a taste for the bartering system.
Let’s take a minute to reflect on past glorious moments of Show and Tell. No one can forget the excitement of Jack Townsend’s demolition of the outhouse. Or the beauty of Bill Moye’s carved panels.. Remember Bill Shirley’s cannonball ? And we have all had the pleasure of seeing the direct result of our turning seminars.
See you this Tuesday Night. Important reminder—--if, you do have to miss the November meeting, the Annual Christmas Party will be at the home. of Tom and Susan Church.

OF MEETINGS-—NOTES FROM THE OCTOBER ONE
Phil Bishop called the meeting to order with 30 members present. - He thanked everyone who participated in Old Timey Day. The John Jordan seminar will start at 8:30. The nominating committee had not met yet, Mayford Clayton gave the treasurer’s report. During Show and Te1l, Bill Chew shared split white oak baskets that he had made. Everyone agreed there was a potential demonstration in the making. Pete Lara showed a ceramic heating unit that was about 8 inches square that would heat a large room or good size shop. It cost $139 but only cost about 50 cents a day to run. Bill Moye had a carved pelican that several members drooled over. He said he had about 10 hours of woodburning in it. Bill Shirley has now painted his climbing bears and they are cuter than ever. Phil Bishop showed his flea market prize, a Stanley #55. Once again, a purchase from the mysterious Illinois gentlemen. A video on bowl turning really warmed up the crowd for John Jordan’s turning seminar. When we write these notes from the meeting, a lot gets left out. Come and see what. you missed.

I don’t have a full report of this yet, but I heard about 13 members attended. And that fun was had by all. I’m sure we will get a full
report and perhaps see some staggering results at the meeting on the 15th.
OFERATION NOEL
AND TOYS FOR TOTS
These are the
names for the Christmas Programs in Franklin and Coffee county that distribute
toys for disadvantaged children. Once again, the Tennessee Valley Woodworkers
will be participating in this drive.We will be bring our toys to the Christmas
Party but if you can’t make it there arc several collection sites over the
county. If you live near Tullahoma, you can take the toys to either fire
station. The fire department will he distributing the toys again this year. The
Tullahoma fire department is also trying a new technique this year. They are
going to set up the fire truck at the mall this year and hope that folks will
go in and buy new toys to fill up the truck for needy youngsters.
The collection
sites in Franklin County are the City Halls in Huntland and Estill Springs,.
and the Decherd and Winchester Fire Departments. The toys will then be distributed all over the county by the
Fraternal order of Police.. The newspapers promise publicity and thanks for our
efforts. So bring your toys to the
Christmas Party and Judy Davis and I will see that they get to their proper
locations. If you have any questions, call us
or Betsy Thornberry of the Winchester Police Department.. or the Tullahorna
Main Fire Station.
REMEMBER——Toys
should be made with non—tonic water based paints and glues; all small parts
should be securely nailed and/or glued; and that a11 corners should be rounded.
PIRANHA HANNA MAMMA
This is a little
note to remind you that the hits and pieces you hear at club can truly be
beneficial to you. A while back, we
heard mention of Black: and Decker-’s Piranha Blade. Several people swore by
them. Last week we final1y bought one when that most dreaded time of the year came———time
to cut wood for- Susan’s frames. This is a really nasty job because we run what seems like a million
feet of lumber through the table saw. Needless to say this is not a time of
marital bliss and harmony. But things went so. smooth with the Piranha we were through inform we knew it. Thu
motor didn’t even get hot on the saw and of course, the breaker didn’t trip
even once. If you have a tip , that you
really have profited from let. us know and we’ll print it up.
