Minutes September 20, 2011 meeting of the Tennessee Valley Woodworkers

President, Vince Zaccardi called the meeting to order at 7 PM. 

 There were no guests and no new members.  There were 61 members present.

 Tonight’s program: “The computer as a woodworking tool” – Loyd Ackerman

Reminder:  Sign the register for the grand door prize.

 Club events:

Coffee County Fair – Loyd gave information on general and Tom Cowan discussed Christmas ornament plans.  Details will be posted on website.

 October 1st – Shop tours (Phil Bishop shop then Ray Cole’s shop.  Details will be posted on the website.

 October 23 – Tom Cowan gave details.  More information on the website.

 Christmas party – December 9th.

 November 5 & 6 Huntsville Show

 Various discussions of upcoming community events not closely related to Club activities.

 Discussion on Tullahoma Fine Arts Center invitation for members to bring items to exhibit in the upstairs meeting hall for October exhibit.  Becky Shelton contact 931-455-1234

 Announced that Officer nominations will be at October meeting and election at November meeting.

 Call for new and old business with no replies.

Show and Tell conducted by Tom Gillard

 Vince Zaccardi – Entertainment center from white oak and book case built into closet with white oak on one side and painted poplar on the other.

Joe Kuhn – Router table built into table saw top with special tooling and new fence.

Loyd Ackerman – Top to five foot square table top of 1 ½” walnut and discussion of problems with leveling.

Tony Murphy – Bit storage cabinet and work bench cabinet for his shop in progress.

Henry Davis – Natural edge maple bowl from burn pile and cherry bowl.

Larry Bowers – Cherry bowl from 2010 turning bee.

Loyd Ackerman – Maple vase from scrap pile wood provided by Tom Cowan.  Vase given to Tom as token.

Gary Runyon – 2 carving knives with exotic wood and special tooling steel.

Jim VanCleave – Mallet with inlays mounted in case fashioned with stylized church steeple.  Displayed in church vestibule.

Ross Roepke – Jig for sharpening planer blades on radial arm saw, honing jig for planer blades, and small table from curley maple and cherry with sculpted legs.

Allan O’dell – Maple bookshelf for new grand daughter.

Kevin Deuermeyer – Table from barrel staves.  Laser engraving.

Jim Everett – Front entry piece cedar intarsia/carving.

Bob Addington – Maple and cherry magazine rack made with CNC machine and finished with polyurethane.

Anthony Watts – Windsor settee for wife.  Four foot long with intricate joinery.  White oak, sugar maple, and poplar.  Milk paint.
