TVWW MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES

Loyd Ackerman called the meeting to order at 7:00.

Tonight is the drawing for the Nie-Nielsen hand plane donated by Chattanooga Woodcraft.

Chuck Taylor was thanked for his continuing work on splinters.  Please notify Chuck for any changes to your contact info.

The library now has 54 titles see Henry Davis for details.

Carver’s Corner:         The Carvers meet the first Saturday of the month.  They are presently working on Eagle-head canes for our veterans.  Contact info for the Carvers is located on our website.  

Upcoming Events:      Coffee County Fair September 19th – 26th.

                                    Christmas ornament workshop with Steve Shores is October 3rd.

Fall Seminar on Oct. 24th.  Johnnie Brown is the chair and gave an overview and details of the event. Ronnie Young will go through all the steps of building a table (from start to finish).  This will be held at Matt Brothers shop.  Details are posted on our website.

                                    Christmas Dinner on Dec. 4th.

The auction for the club cabinet will end September 15th.  If you want to place a bid contact Loyd in writing or email.  At present Dick Wollam has the high bid

Old Business:             An excellent presentation was made asking us to support the ‘Honors Flight’ program which honors our World War II veterans by flying them to Washington D.C. for a day to visit their memorial.  This will take place on September 26th.

 

New Business:            Wayne Simmons won the drawing for the Nie-Nielsen hand plane.

 

 

Show and Tell:

Van Cleave brought some of the polished rocks and gemstones that he had worked on at the Senior Citizens Center in Tullahoma.  He encouraged others to the lapidary facilities at the Senior Citizens Center.

Gary Runyon showed a small hand plane he made and finished with a walnut stain and a wax finish.

Tom Cowan displayed an early TN. museum quality table he had built. He used a satin lacquer as the finish coat.

Josef Maierbacker showed a wooden box with a stone inlay.

Harry May had one of the eagle head canes that were being given to disabled vets.  He also showed a angel carved out of basswood.  He also had a carving of Chief Joseph out of butternut.  Jim Wright had started this and Harry was honored to finish it.

Bob Addington displayed his clever solution to supplying power to a four speed shop fan.

Ross Roepke showed a mahogany night table and his jig for marking out smooth curves.

 

Anthony Watts asked for help in setting up future programs.

Ross Roepke stated that work may start at Falls Mill this fall.

 

Program:        Henry Davis gave a presentation on the hand plane.  Jim Van Cleave and Bob Reece assisted him with a video segment.           

The meeting adjourned at 8:30
