January 20, 1998  DREMC  community room

Meeting called to order by VP Loyd Ackerman at 7:03 PM.  Old business: dues are due and payable.  $10.00 for individual or $15.00 for family membership.  Exhibit committee report:  Chairman John Sargent stated that the committee had determined that we would plan another three location exhibit in the spring of 1999.  Also, the club should secure a display case to house a traveling display.

Welcome to new members: Steve Graham, Kenneth Kimble and Eric Robinson.

Guests included: Ronnie Hall, Bill Robinson, Marvin Mulkey, Mike Hopper and son Clint, Gene Rayfield, Leah Thayer, Ray Gardner, Paul Knolls, Andy Smith and Joe and Sandra Plunkett.  Apologies to anyone that might have been missed.

New business: February program will be a silent auction and social time.  Members are encouraged to bring items to sell.  Proceeds may be retained by the seller or donated to the club.  Any monies that are retained by the club will go toward the paving brick that was purchased for Arrowmont.  If there are excess funds raised they will go into the club treasury.

Show and tell:  Steve Graham, two carvings - a standing buffalo and a wall piece, T. Cowman, Turnings - an eared pitcher, a plain pitcher and a stunning hurricane lamp, L. Ackerman, a turned bowl and a variety of small turnings including pens, letter openers and plumb bobs, E. Robinson, chess board with chess pieces and two turned bowls, W. Bennett, whittled walking stick, B. Reese, handplane book from Powells hardware, T. Church turned tulip poplar bowl and a duct tape commercial, H. Davis, antique bed reproduction in walnut, J. Van Cleave, a lamp table and bed steps, S. Baker, a hammer dulcimer with stand and a lap dulcimer with pearl inlay - Skip’s granddaughter, Leah Thayer demonstrated both instruments, H. Clark, cherry waddling duck, B. Whiteaker, cherry clock, R. Roepke, pieces of manzanita to give to interested members and a new 14 V Makita cordless drill, T. Gillard, pieces of a recently cut yew to give to interested members. Mrs. Betty White provided treats to enhance the coffee break.  Thank you Mrs. White.

After a ten minute break president Harold Hewgley reconvened the meeting and Loyd Ackerman introduced Dr. Dick Binger who presented a wonderful program on segmented bowls. After the program president Hewgley adjourned the meeting at 8:58 PM.
